If you’re like me, you have bought and received tons of children’s books. And, if you’re like me, you’ve skipped pages and changed words in many of the books. Who wrote some of these things? One book I was reading (unnamed) to my child was about safety. Ok…great topic…don’t climb on chairs, don’t jump on your bed, don’t climb on the roof and pretend to fly off. WHAT?????? No. No. No. Why would I ever want my child to think about jumping off the roof? This book, along with a few others, is in a pile hidden far away.
I couldn’t believe it was actually hard to find well written, meaningful children’s books. That is, until I came upon Todd Parr. I was originally introduced to his books at my fertility clinic years ago (full disclosure, I went through IVF to have my child) as his books focus on a positive, inclusive and tolerant view of the world. The messages behind his books are simple, yet powerful (especially in the currently divisive times) – love others no matter what they look like, what their family structure is, where they come from; express your feelings; embrace your differences; and much more. The wording is fun and impactful for children, and the artwork is great. These are my child’s favorite books, hands down.
Todd Parr’s books are my go to gift for baby showers, birthdays and holidays. Or, just a nice surprise for your child / children. Given how awesome these books are, I don’t suggest waiting until a special occasion.
Here are a few of our favorites – the links will connect you straight to Amazon if you’d like to purchase them (btw, if you don’t have Amazon Prime, seriously consider it. As our lives get more hectic, especially with children, the service is a god send).
Love and peace,
